Travel with respect. Leave a positive impact.
These tips are designed to help you travel thoughtfully, protect people and places, and experience meaningful connections while exploring Thailand with us.
π§ 1. Respect Local Communities
- Ask permission before photographing people β a smile and a greeting go a long way.
- Learn a few local greetings and phrases before you go.
- Observe local customs, traditions, and etiquette, especially at religious or sacred sites.
πΏ 2. Protect Nature & Wildlife
- Stay on marked paths and trails; donβt trample fragile vegetation.
- Never feed, touch, or chase wildlife β observe from a distance.
- Avoid souvenirs made from animal parts, coral, or endangered natural materials.
π§ 3. Conserve Water and Energy
- Thailand can be hot β but use water and air conditioning mindfully.
- Shorter showers and turning off lights/appliances when not in your room make a difference.
- Bring a reusable bottle and refill it rather than buying disposable plastic.
π 4. Choose Local, Eat Local
- Enjoy meals at locally owned restaurants and street food stalls.
- Try regional dishes and support farmers, growers, and food producers in the community.
- Ask about ingredients or traditions β food tells a story!
5. Shop Responsibly
- Support local artisans and craftspeople by purchasing genuine handmade goods.
- Avoid mass-produced trinkets and items made from protected plants, animals, or cultural artefacts.
- Look for community-based cooperatives and fair-trade vendors.
π§ 6. Honor Cultural Heritage
- Dress modestly at temples and spiritual sites.
- Remove your shoes when entering sacred spaces if required.
- Learn the significance behind local rituals rather than treating them as entertainment.
π£ 7. Offset Your Footprint
- Consider carbon offset options for your flights or tours.
- Take low-impact transport when possible (walk, cycle, or public transport).
- Pick tours and accommodations that prioritise sustainability.
π§ 8. Stay Curious, Stay Kind
- Ask guides about how you can help preserve the places you visit.
- Share what youβve learned with other travelers.
- Be patient, open-minded, and adaptable β local ways may differ from home.
π€ 9. Engage With Purpose
- Participate in community-led experiences with respect and humility.
- Offer appreciation β but avoid giving gifts or money directly to children.
- Support local conservation initiatives through participation or donations where appropriate.
π’ 10. Speak Up
- If you see behaviour that harms people, culture, or nature, report it to your guide.
- Ask questions β sustainability is a shared journey.
π 11. Respect Human Rights β Zero Tolerance for Exploitation
- Do not support the sex industry. What may appear as entertainment often hides serious human rights abuses. Many individuals involved are victims of organised crime and human trafficking.
- Sexual exploitation of children is strictly forbidden. Pedophilia is a serious crime. Offenders may be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, including under international legislation, even after returning to their home countries.
- Travel responsibly by respecting the dignity, safety, and rights of all people. If you witness or suspect any form of exploitation or abuse, please inform your guide or local authorities immediately.
